Ms. Turner Brings a Lot of Energy

September 28, 2019

Ms. Turner is Churchland High School’s new Parent and Family Engagement Liaison, a brand new position at the school.

She started August 23 and her main responsibility being to work alongside families and staff to support parents and guardians in achieving goals to address the needs of their students.

Ms. Turner revealed what her main objective is: “I guess my overall goal is to establish a family within these walls.”

Other teachers seem very excited to see what she has in store for Churchland High School.

“I’ve been here since 2002-2003 school year. So, you know, I’ve seen a lot of things come and go. A lot of programs flourish, a lot of them fail. This is one I don’t think I’ve ever seen us try with such an approach and I hope it goes well,” Mr. Browning stated.

The program being put into effect is a new concept for Churchland staff and students. Some teachers are even getting in on the excitement by helping plan events.

“From talking to her and just a few things that I’ve already seen, I’m excited for it. I think she’s bringing something to the table that the school, and honestly the community, needs,” Mr. Marriner said.

Mr. Marriner is one of the teachers currently working with Ms. Turner on an event - one of which we are not allowed to know the details of yet.

“I can’t tell you, but we’re working on something special,” Ms. Turner revealed.

Mr. Browning said, “I think that there’s this divide between what goes on in the school and, you know, getting parents involved in an education. I mean, parents are a major stakeholder in a child’s education. All too often we kind of shoulder them out sometimes.”

Staff members seem to be very excited about the energy she brings to the school.

Mr. Patterson thinks her energy will be good for the school. “She’s got a lot of energy, you know? We need a lot of energy around here.”
